Safe and Comfortable Living for Loved Ones
For the past several years, the ability of my parents to live independently has slowly declined. Everyday tasks like bathing and cooking have become tough as their mobility has decreased. My father is currently in a wheelchair and requires assistance to go outside or even take a shower. I have spoken to them about the possibility of living in a nursing home but they strongly oppose (as do I). Independence has always been a huge part of their lives and they don’t feel that it would be necessary for them to enter into community living. They enjoy the location and familiarity of their current home but need a little extra assistance at times. With a nursing home out of the question, I have been exploring every other possible option that would allow them to live at home and make their lives easier at the same time. One of the most feasible options is a caregiver; however, my parents aren’t very open to the idea of paying someone to help them accomplish tasks that they used to do on their own. With their budget being as tight as it is, I’d feel guilty knowing that they are paying someone to assist them when I could just as easily help them for free. The sole reason I can’t always help them when they need it is because I lead a busy life and have a demanding career for which I work many hours. When it comes down to it, they can’t afford a caregiver and I can’t guarantee them immediate assistance any time they need it. With most of the conventional options crossed off of the list, I began researching ways in which my parents could improve their lives and once again accomplish daily tasks without the need for outside assistance. As I researched, I was pointed in the direction of Jamie Spurling by one of his former customers. Jamie has the ability to implement home modifications that can greatly reduce dependence on outside assistance when it comes to tasks like cooking, bathing, and moving around your house. His solutions are designed to restore independence to people who have previously had trouble completing daily tasks. I met with Jamie and soon had a list of solutions that would allow my parents to live as they used to. Modified doors that would allow my father to move freely about the house in his wheelchair along with a solution to allow both my mother and father to safely bathe were two of the major improvements. It wasn’t long before my father was comfortably moving through doors that he previously couldn’t fit his wheelchair through. Additionally, my parents could now bathe safely and sitting down, eliminating the fear of slipping and falling. Showering is no longer a monumental task that requires outside assistance or a large amount of effort. All in all, I’d just like to say thanks to Jamie and everyone else from www.livingbarrierfreehomes.com that made it possible for my parents to live independently while remaining comfortable and happy. Jamie applied logical home modification solutions to the situation my parents were in to create affordable and safe answers to their problems.
